| WEDNESDAY GOLF LEAGUE
Information New player openings are filled by the first letter received, postmarked no earlier than January 1st. Send a letter or postcard with your name (and partners name), which night preferred (if any), addresses, and phone numbers. Use address of Rich Smith, League Secretary, see bottom of this page. You will receive a postcard or phone call informing you of the spring meeting. The league consists of 24 two men teams. A schedule is set up so 24 teams play against one another over the season. The season usually runs 20 weeks with 18 weeks of league play split into two 9 week half seasons plus a tournament night in the middle of the season and fun night at the end of the season. At the end of the season, the first place finishers in each half then play off against each other to determine the champion. This winner then plays the season point leader for the championship. The season usually starts in late April and continues to mid September. Tee time blocks are Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30 pm to 4:52 pm. Your tee time will vary each week within this time block. Winter rules are followed on the course. The white tees are used. In the event of inclement weather, including rain, all golf matches are played unless called off by the head officer of the league present on the night in question. These matches are not made up. If any member of the foursome cannot play, or cannot be on the tee when his team is scheduled to tee off, it is up to that member to get a substitute. Substitutes are usually available. The substitutes green fees must be paid by the member getting the sub. If a complete team is not available to tee off by their tee time, a forfeit will be declared. All team members must be 18 years of age or older. Members of the league must purchase a 20 round punch card to pay their own green fees for them and their subs. League dues were $35 plus $36 for skin game money in 2008 which paid for sec'y fees, tournament night prize money and beer, Sunshine Fund, end of year fun night (banquet night) and the season's prize money. The play is for a 30 points per night. One team plays against the other. Three (3) points will be awarded on each hole. One (1) point for team low net per hole. The low handicap golfers of each team will compete against each other and the high handicap golfers of each team will compete against each other for one point each, per hole. The handicapped low net determines the winners. Low team net gets the final three points. Ties split the points. League handicap is determined by low 5 out of 8 rounds, averaged against par 36, with a maximum of 18 handicap for nine holes. Any new member or sub without an established League handicap will use 90% of handicap for the first three (3) rounds and full handicap thereafter. There is a banquet and fun night the week after league ends, and an organizational meeting in spring. At the spring meeting there is a roll call and at that time openings are filled with individuals or two man teams. Most new members join as a new team with the partner of their own choice. Our spring meeting for 2008 was April 2 nd at 6:00 pm at Rolling Meadows. If you need any additional information, please contact secretray Rich Smith - email below. |
